Avatar Meeting Ender's Game
|

If you haven't seen "Avatar" yet, notice this is a spoiler.
A few nights ago I've watched the movie "Avatar" in the cinema in 3D. The first thing I can say is that the picture was great
– there was a great 3D effect, sharp colors and beautiful scenes. The combination between the photography and the animation
made it hard to tell between them. Generally, a 3D animation movie takes you inside an imaginary world, and I think it's amazing.

I think I still need to get used to watching movies in 3D, as it seems a little weird to me (even though it looks pretty and realistic).
The esthetics of the pictures was mostly the same esthetics as in 2D movies. This esthetics evolved in a matter of centuries (of
photography and drawing) to create perspective in a 2D image. Maybe it's not me who needs to get used, but the esthetics of 3D movies
needs to change.
Besides the picture and the appearance, I didn't see much originality in the movie. It is even said that the movie is no more than a mash
up of other movies (see the discussion
here).
What I noticed immediately when I watched the movie is the similarity to "Ender's Game". "Ender's Game" describes an alien species that
communicate with "aiwa", and when they die, they turn into trees. The species communicate with their ancestors, the trees.
If you have read my past movie reviews, you should have noticed that I have seen that movie plots are mostly not completely original, but
based on or inspired by past movies, stories, legends and myths. The writers usually "do their homework" before they write the scripts.
That's why I wasn't surprised that the plot of "Avatar" wasn't really new.
