Blogs at Thanksgiving: Giving Thanks for the Blogosphere
Thanksgiving is a special day for being thankful, a day which is uniquely celebrated in the United States and Canada. It's a time for
reflecting on important values. It's a day when we give thanks for all we have and own, and also for important things such as blogs which
brighten our daily lives throughout the year.
Americans commonly believe that the first Thanksgiving was a feast to which the Pilgrims invited Native Americans in 1621, at Plymouth
Plantation, Massachusetts and shared the plentiful food of their first successful harvest in the new land. There is strong evidence for
earlier celebrations in Canada (1578) and by Spanish explorers in Florida (1565). This tradition of sharing between neighbors at
Thanksgiving has continued to the present day. In modern times, family and friends usually gather for a turkey dinner, and long hours of
conversation and togetherness.
Blogs are an important part of Thanksgiving and the entire holiday season because they serve a dual role: First, blogs allow family and
friends to bond together in shared enjoyment of a memorable article, picture, music piece or video and thereby enrich their time together.
Yet, blogs also offer the opposite advantage, too; during lulls in conversation, Thanksgiving guests invariably look for a blog to pass
time before the next family moment. Regardless of what your role is on Thanksgiving, there is always something to help you keep it alive.
There is a big advantage to the blogosphere compared to other media, such as newspapers, magazines, television and commercial websites.
The blogosphere reflects the widest variety of opinions and point of views.
The non commercial character of the blog enables everyone to manage a blog. A blog can be created with no cost and no early knowledge. You
don't need a studio, a transmitter or a printing machine. You just need a connection to the internet. That enables every person to express
his thoughts and opinions without limitation, and spread it out.
So, as we look forward to Thanksgiving and the holiday season, we remember one more reason to give thanks - blogs!
