Current Events in Norway, Israel, Egypt and South Sudan
Killings in Norway
Send my sympathy to Norway. Norway always seemed like a quiet and safe country. What a pity. It reminds me of the assassination of the Israeli Prime Minister Rabin in 1995. When everybody expects that terror attacks
come from Muslim terrorists, this one came from a right wing extremist.
An Israeli news website says that Norway youths discussed Palestine prior to attack.
I understand that the Israeli press looks for the Israeli aspect of events, and even if it's true, I think it's a bad news item for Israel. Why make a connection between that crazy murderer to Israel when none is proved?
Protests in Israel
The question has been asked already in the last few months: While protests are rising in so many Middle East countries, scaring away leaders in three countries already (Tunisia, Egypt & Yemen), why aren't there
protests in Israel?
I would explain that Israel is the only democratic country in the Middle East, and life in Israel is a lot better than in Arab countries. Israel honors human rights a lot more than the countries that surround it, so it
seems that Israelis, relatively, don't have much to protest about.
I can tell you the truth, that here in Israel people are telling themselves for quite a time that they should get their asses outside their air conditioned rooms and protest against rising prices of about everything –
including food, fuel, public transportation, accommodation and taxes. The government seems to be apathetic to the people's needs. The protests are happening, at last.
I wish that in the next elections to the Israeli parliament, people will vote to new and young parties, and not to the veteran parties that allow themselves not to do anything for the people, because people vote for
them again and again anyway.
Riots in Cairo
Did anyone think that the Egyptian revolution was over when Mubarak resigned? I would say that it has just begun. At least I hope that is so for the sake of the Egyptians. The people want democracy. Is there democracy
in Egypt today? No. Will there be democracy in Egypt in the near future? I suppose not, if it depended on the military council that rules Egypt today. The Egyptian people must go on fighting for their rights.
Southern Sudan Independence
Greetings to the people of Southern Sudan for their new state. I wish them success, wealth and peace. I wonder how many governments are asking: Can the Sudanese refugees in our country go back home, at last?
