Freedom of Religion and Human Rights

Freedom of Religion and Human Rights One of the fundamental human rights is the freedom of religion (also called "freedom of worship"). It sounds quite obvious. Believe in God, believe in Jesus, believe in Buddha, believe in yourself or believe in nothing – it's nobody's business besides yours. It's nobody's business where you go to pray or when. It isn't supposed to be anybody's business if you wear a robe or a weird hat for religious purposes. Nobody can force you to believe or not to believe in anything. Believing comes from the heart. If it does not come from the heart, it is not believing, and it is pointless.

Many religions talk about being a better person and a better society, and that's great. Religions, in general, have an excellent influence on today's society.

The problem begins when religions accept violence. There are people who torture and kill others in the name of god. Then, they claim they have the freedom of religion. There are people who say that a county's law is not for them to obey, but only God's law, which includes holy war and terminating all the people from a certain group.

Does the freedom of religion include suffering from the loud voice of the muezzin from the nearby mosque? Does the freedom of religion include being forced to wear a veil, to sit in the back of the bus, not to be allowed to work or to drive? Does the freedom of religion include not having the means of transportation on weekends?

We have to remember, that people are eligible of any right, just as long as it doesn't harm others. People may believe in what they want, but still need to think logically and consider other people's feelings and rights. God is not an excuse.
