Madagascar: Lord of the Flies, the Entertaining Version

In literature lessons in school, one of the books I've studied was "Lord of the Flies". For whoever doesn't remember or doesn't know: it is about a group of British children that crash with a plane on an isolated island. They try to live there by rules, but they turn to be wild. I didn't like the book so much. It was quite boring. The teacher's explanations didn't add any interest. The movie based on the book wasn't that good either.

One day I went with a friend to the movie "Madagascar". On the first moment it looks like a regular animation movie, no different than others. It's about four animals from a New York zoo that find themselves in the jungles of Madagascar. They try to keep their "civilized" lives, but they have to accept the fact that they're actually wild animals.

Only on the second thought it occurred to me that "Madagascar" is a parody on "Lord of the Flies". It has references also to other movies and stories about isolated islands, but the main idea of the movie is based on "Lord of the Flies".

I believe it is one of many cases where popular movies are based on classical books, legends and stories. "Shrek" based on "Tristan and Isolde", "The Matrix" and "Back to the Future" based on ancient Greek myths are only two more examples.

If you still believe that what you study in school is boring and useless information, I can assure you that if you remember what you studied, you will find out that a lot of our pop culture is based on it.

I think that is a very interesting idea. I watched Madagascar and thoroughly enjoyed it, and am familiar with the concept of Lord of the Flies. I must admit though, strangely enough I made it all the way through school without reading it! This is getting me to think that it might be time to pick it up, since it really is a classic. I just found it as an audio book on http://www.audiobooks.net/audiobooks.php which is very helpful considering it really is difficult to find time to sit down and read.
