Veterans Day: Salute to the Keepers of Freedom

Veterans Day: Salute to the Keepers of Freedom Today (November 11th), the USA is indicating Veterans Day. This day is dedicated to all the American military veterans, and it is also a remembrance day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War.

In recent years, it is questioned why the United States involves itself in wars, especially the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. What do hundreds of thousands of soldiers have to risk their lives for? Why can't they just live their peaceful lives in America?

Many Americans are not aware of it, and many Europeans aren't either, but the free and democratic world is at risk. Fundamentalist countries such as Iran and terror organizations such as Al Qaeda are trying to object the hegemony of the free world.

Just nine years ago, on September 11th, 2001, the whole world has witnessed a deadly terror attack on the United States which killed thousands of people and injured more. Just recently there was an attempt to carry out a terror attack in Chicago, which was stopped. Terror attacks have occurred also in other parts of the world, like Europe, the Middle East, the Far East and Africa.

Until about a century ago, the USA was hardly involved in wars outside of the American continent. It has changed since the world wars, but for a good reason: If the USA hadn't taken part in the Second World War, for example, the world would have been ruled today by the successors of Hitler or Stalin.

I am a supporter of peace. I wish we didn't have to witness war, terror or violence at all. Still, I believe that in order to maintain our freedom, we still have to fight against those who are trying to take our freedom away from us. I honor the soldiers who serve the countries that support democracy and freedom.
