Why You Do Not Need Daylight Saving Time
The main purpose of Daylight Saving Time is to make better use of daylight. We change our clocks during the summer months to move an hour
of daylight from the morning to the evening.
The rationale behind Daylight Saving Time is to save energy in the summer months by extending the daylight in the evening when more people
would be using more lights and electricity.
Daylight Saving Time was first conceived in the USA by its president then, Benjamin Franklin, in 1784, more than 200 years ago. It became
common all over the world throughout the 20th century.

Why, then, don't you need it? Until a few decades ago, most of the energy used by mankind was used for light. Nowadays, only a small part
of the energy is used for light. The rest is used for the growing amount of applications we have for energy, such as transportation,
machinery, air conditioning, cooking, computers, and so on.
Daylight Saving Time doesn't save us much. More than that – in climates where the summer is hot, people use the air conditioner for cooling
in that extra hour. Air conditioning consumes more energy than light.
Do you want to make a better use of daylight? Wake up an hour earlier. Do you need your country to make you do that?
I once had a conversation with a co-worker, in a workplace where the day began at 6:40 am. It went like this:
| - | When the sun sets later, you have more will to stay at work for extra hours, right? (I asked him) |
| - | Right. |
| - | And you know that in the summer, the sun doesn't only set later; it also rises earlier, right? |
| - | Right. |
| - | So, if you were asked to come to work on 5:40 am instead of 6:40, would you come? |
| - | Of course not. |
| - | But that's what you're actually doing. |
| - | You're right! I am being deceived! |
Do you want to save energy? You might want to, because it will save you money and do well to the environment. Turn off electronic devices
such as your computer, TV and air conditioner when you don't need them to work. Consider unplugging them, too. Use public transportation
or even a bicycle instead of your private car. Believe me, a bus or a train ticket is cheaper than the fuel alone.
