You and the Media

On September 9th, 2009, I have posted a poll on the blog, titled "Poll: You and the Media". I'll summarize the results for the last month:

What type of current events do you like to follow? What type of current events do you like to follow?
45% of the people who answered the question checked "Entertainment". The other options were left behind: politics (15%), world news (12%), business (12%), tourism (9%), and others (6%). It seems that the majority prefers to use the media for fun than for more serious fields.

What type of medium do you prefer? What type of medium do you prefer?
I thought that the results for this question were obvious, and it turned out I was right. This blog is published on the internet and is targeted to internet users. Absolutely most of the checks were on "Internet" – 58% of them, to be precise. Television is on the second place with 24%. It looks like the television set is here to stay.

Others checked "Mobile Phone" (12%) and "Home / Office Phone" (3%). Looks like people prefer the mobility when it's available. Another 3% of the people who answered the question checked "Other", without leaving comments with details. I wonder what they meant, because newspapers and radio didn't get checked at all. Did these types of media turned unnecessary, or are they just in a low preferability?

What type of websites do you visit occasionally?
What type of websites do you visit occasionally? Half of the people who answered the question checked "Social Networking Websites". That's not surprising, since I use these websites as my main way to reach people. Thanks a lot to Facebook, Twitter, Digg, and some more of them for the platform.

Another quarter checked "Blogs and Personal Websites". That is a very encouraging result for me, because it means that I actually reached people that are interested in websites like mine, and hopefully, my website itself.

14% of the answering people occasionally visit portals and news websites, 7% visit sites not listed in my options, and 4% usually visit professional websites, in any field. Thumbs up for them.

Which of the following internet related application types do you use the most?
Which of the following internet related application types do you use the most? Well, this question appears to be even more obvious than it could seem. 81% of my loyal readers checked "Browser". Browsing websites is clearly the main use of the internet, and in addition, sending and receiving emails is now also done with the web browser, along with other applications.

Another 15% of the poll's checkers checked "File Sharing". How interesting, especially considering one of my recent posts, "Illegal Downloading of Music". The rest, which sum up to 4%, checked "Instant Messaging". There's nothing like the internet to keep in touch with people. It's like combining the phone, the fax and the mail together.

Are you subscribed to RSS feeds?
Are you subscribed to RSS feeds? 35% are subscribed. I hope they’re all subscribed to mine. 19% ask what RSS is. For all of you who don’t know, RSS is a type of file, presented on the internet, and used to keep track of updates in websites such as blogs, news sites, etc. For more information, just Google it. Since I suppose 81% of you do know what RSS is, I can tell you to go to my RSS page and subscribe to it: http://www.faceglobal.com/FaceGlobalRssFeed.xml.
